Police arrested 18 unlicensed photographers for allegedly assaulting a man who intervened in a fight with a tourist at KLCC.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested 18 individuals believed to be unlicensed photographers, or ‘photo touts’, for allegedly assaulting a man at the KLCC precinct.

The incident occurred on Sunday when the victim saw the group assaulting a male tourist from India.

Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Sazalee Adam said the victim approached and reprimanded the group to stop.

“The victim was suddenly attacked on the head from behind by an individual using a karambit knife,” he said in a statement.

The situation escalated when approximately 30 individuals from the same group then assaulted the victim.

The 18 local male suspects, aged between 17 and 45, were arrested at the KLCC compound around 10.20 pm.

Initial investigations found they admitted to being at the scene and operating as unlicensed photographers in the area.

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting armed with a deadly weapon.
