Motorists were fined in Bangsar despite an additional holiday, sparking confusion over DBKL parking rules

PUBLIC holidays and weekends are usually drivers’ favourites, as parking summons are rarely issued. But what happens when city hall decides otherwise?

In a Threads post, Sharvin shared his confusion after Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) issued summonses to vehicles that failed to pay for parking coupons or were parked outside designated bays at Jalan Telawi, Bangsar yesterday.

This came despite the day being announced as an additional holiday ahead of Federal Territory Day, which fell on Sunday.

According to Sharvin, a DBKL enforcement officer told him, “It is an additional holiday and not an actual public holiday.”

Equally puzzled, Natasha shared her experience of checking online to see whether parking was free on the additional holiday.

Her Google search results indicated that street parking under DBKL is generally free on gazetted public holidays, including the additional holiday for Federal Territory Day.

However, the information proved misleading, as motorists were still issued summonses. “Google is wrong and now I have to pay up,” she said, pointing to the lack of clarity in the rules.

Meanwhile, Azfar shared a government statement clarifying that the additional public holiday was not applicable to civil servants under Section 3 of the Holidays Act 1951 (Act 369).
