MACC will submit investigation papers on DOE’s e-waste bribery case to the AGC this Friday, recommending charges against its director-general and deputy.
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will submit investigation papers on an alleged e-waste bribery case involving the Department of Environment’s top officials to the Attorney-General’s Chambers this Friday.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the probe into the DOE director-general and deputy director-general is in its final stages.
“I have given the investigating officers two weeks, and I assure that by this Friday the investigation papers will be submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers with a recommendation to charge both individuals,” he told a press conference.
The two senior officers were detained on Jan 29 to assist in investigations linked to the management of electrical and electronic waste.
Azam confirmed the papers would recommend charges for alleged abuse of power and corruption.
In a separate development, Azam said the MACC has deployed four additional officers to the Defence Ministry.
He stated the move is to help address issues of leakages and governance, particularly involving procurement matters.
Azam cautioned that it is still too early to conclude the ministry has been fully cleansed.
Last January, four senior Malaysian Armed Forces officers were charged in court over alleged abuse of power involving military procurement and welfare fund management.
The issue also drew the attention of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
The King had stressed that corruption must be fought on a large scale without legal protection, including against high-ranking officers.
