Cikgu Chandra arrested for Facebook post insulting Indian community; police warn against provocative content that may disrupt public order.

PETALING JAYA: A man, popularly known as Cikgu Chandra, has been arrested for allegedly uploading a Facebook post that insulted the Indian community and referenced an illegal temple, in a case believed to have the potential to disturb public order.

In a statement today, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the police received a report on Tuesday from a man who claimed to have seen the post while at Sogo Shopping Complex, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

“The complainant described the content as provocative, insulting, and capable of inciting actions beyond the control of the law.

“Following the report, a police team arrested the suspect on Wednesday at approximately 3pm, and a mobile phone believed to have been used to upload the viral post was seized.”

Fadil said that during investigations, the suspect reportedly admitted to uploading the content out of dissatisfaction and to gain attention from his social media followers. He was taken to the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters for further questioning.

He urged the public not to make statements or upload posts on racial, religious, or community issues that could disrupt public safety, warning that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to exploit such sentiments for personal popularity or political support.

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(c) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
