Public Service DG says all regulations and circulars must be reviewed triennially to ensure policies remain relevant and effective under new efficiency law.

PUTRAJAYA: All government entities must review every regulatory instrument at least once every three years.

Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz said this directive ensures policies remain relevant and effective.

The mandate aligns with the Government Service Efficiency Commitment Act 2025 and its corresponding circular. These came into force on December 1, 2025.

Circulars, regulations and guidelines older than 20 years or deemed irrelevant are now being updated. This review includes policies on outside employment and share ownership by public officers.

Wan Ahmad Dahlan said the update considers current needs and changes in the economic and technological landscape. It forms a key agenda under the Bureaucratic Red Tape Reform.

This reform is the core thrust of the Public Service Reform Agenda. It aims to enhance efficiency, integrity and strengthen service delivery.

“This is to ensure government policies remain relevant to current developments while maintaining a balance between the elements of integrity and present-day realities,” he said in a statement. He added the principles of transparency and accountability must not be compromised.

The updating exercise seeks to modernise the public service framework. It aims to keep pace with evolving governmental and business environments.
