PUTRAJAYA: MyCreative Ventures will, for the first time, bring several local entrepreneurs to Indonesia and Singapore this year. The initiative aims to showcase their artistic and creative works in these two ASEAN countries.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil announced the plan at his ministry’s monthly assembly. He pledged the government’s strongest support for MyCreative, recognising the creative industry’s vital role in national economic development.
“I’m happy to announce that MyCreative will this year, insya-Allah, for the first time, take several local entrepreneurs, who we have featured in the Riuh series, to two ASEAN countries, namely Indonesia and Singapore,” Fahmi said. He clarified that MyCreative would decide the specific dates for the visits.
Fahmi cited the success of local films like ‘Papa Zola’ in Indonesian cinemas as a precedent. The ministry will now focus on producing more capable producers to help the local industry penetrate the global market.
These cross-border efforts will involve multiple agencies, including the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS). Fahmi acknowledged that not all local creative products can be easily exported, particularly in fashion and food and beverage.
“That’s because most of the products, especially in fashion and F&B, are not easy to export,” he explained. He stressed the need for more efforts to help bring creative material to the international stage. MyCreative is a government-owned investment company established to spur the local creative industry.
