Massive traffic gridlocked KL and its surrounding areas, with no clear cause, leaving commuters frustrated and searching for answers.

“Klang Valley at a standstill for no clear reason. What’s actually happening?”

THAT was the question raised by @ameydeen_ on X as extraordinary congestion paralysed Kuala Lumpur and surrounding areas only recently.

According to the post, the gridlock hit “simultaneously across almost all major routes”, with traffic maps like Google Maps and Waze showing a “deep red” flow choking the arteries of the capital.

The worst affected areas included the City Centre, Ampang route, Kelana Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Puchong, Seri Kembangan, Batu Caves and Wangsa Maju.

“The congestion is so severe that even motorcyclists are forced to wait, as there’s no space left to filter through,” he added, noting there were no reports of major accidents or flash floods.

As of posting, there had been no official statement explaining the disruption.

Frustration quickly followed.

“I’d rather move house than face that Federal Highway jam every single day just to get to work. The traffic there is hellish,” said @arnbjntn.

@HedgePrism03 replied: “Give us more options than having a car! Don’t you get it?”

Others speculated on possible causes.

@azirinsr suggested logistics companies rushing deliveries before the long Chinese New Year break, alongside preparations for Ramadan and Chinese New Year.

Meanwhile, @chiafook2013 pointed to “shopping madness for Chinese New Year and the fasting month”, calling it good for the economy but “terrible for drivers’ stress levels”.

Compounding the issue, @addinaam claimed some routes were rerouted due to police road closures that were not reflected on navigation apps.

With no confirmed cause, one thing is clear: Klang Valley’s dependence on road traffic has once again come under scrutiny and the only victims? As usual, car drivers.
