The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission dismisses a foreign media report alleging collusion, stating all its investigations are independent and evidence-based.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has firmly dismissed a recent international media report containing what it describes as malicious and baseless allegations.

In a statement, the commission said it will not comment on defamatory, speculative, or subjudice matters currently before the courts.

It took note of the report which it said was intended to tarnish the commission’s reputation.

“Any allegations or assumptions that MACC’s investigations are influenced by personal interests are completely rejected,” the statement read.

It emphasised that all its investigations are conducted firmly in accordance with legal provisions and guided by evidence.

The commission stressed these investigations are undertaken independently without fear or favour.

MACC also clarified that any prosecution decision falls under the discretion of the Attorney-General’s Chambers and the judiciary.

This is in line with Malaysia’s legal framework based on the principle of separation of powers.

The commission’s functions are stipulated under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

Its work is monitored by five independent oversight bodies.

MACC stated that allegations of misconduct cannot be adjudicated through media narratives.

Such claims must instead be assessed through established legal processes and the justice system.

It urged individuals or parties with credible evidence of corruption to channel information through proper avenues.

This would enable evaluation and action in accordance with the law.

The international media report had alleged that MACC senior officers colluded with businessmen to remove competitors and forcibly take over companies.
