Hamzah Zainudin says he is now the Bersatu president’s “number one enemy”, a day after being sacked from the party.

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin today declared himself the “number one enemy” of the party president during a meeting today, following his sacking yesterday.

“Last year at the Bersatu Annual General Assembly, I stood as the president’s number one supporter.

“Today, I stand as his number one opponent,” Hamzah said at the “political reset” meeting here at Universiti Malaya Alumni Association (PAUM) Club House today.

The former Bersatu deputy president claimed he was blindsided by his dismissal.

“I had no idea this was happening. Today I speak because I simply didn’t know.

“What kind of ghosts are in this party? Enough is enough,” he added.

Earlier, Tan Sri Muhyiddin defended the move to sack Hamzah, saying he “acted in good faith” to protect Bersatu.

The party president said he had tolerated Hamzah for years, but accused the former deputy of continuously undermining efforts to unite the party.

Muhyiddin issued the statement after chairing a special Bersatu supreme council meeting at his Bukit Damansara residence today, as well.

Hamzah was sacked along with other party leaders, including supreme council member and Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, as well as Sungai Manik assemblyman Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin.

Several other top-tier party figures were also dismissed, in what insiders describe as a dramatic shake-up within Bersatu.

“Last year at the Bersatu annual general assembly, I was the president’s (Tan Sri Muhyiddin’s) number one supporter in the assembly.

“Now, I am his number one opponent,” Hamzah said.
