
A man in his 50s was rescued from his burning terrace house after firefighters cut through door grille locks to reach him.
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Quick action by firefighters saved a man in his 50s trapped inside his burning home on Jalan Damai this morning.
The Penang Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 9.38 am. Teams from Bukit Mertajam and Sungai Bakap stations were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The fire involved a Class A terrace house, which suffered about 40% damage. Firefighters brought the blaze under control within 10 minutes.

They rescued the man by cutting through the door grille locks to reach him. The operation used both offensive and defensive tactics, including creating a fire break to prevent the flames from spreading.
The fire was fully extinguished by 10.11 am. Overhaul work was then conducted to prevent any embers from reigniting.
The site has been handed over to a Fire Investigation Officer to determine the cause of the blaze.
