Kuala Lumpur police issued 820 fines and seized 83 vehicles in a major overnight operation targeting illegal modifications and other offences.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police issued 820 traffic fines during an integrated overnight operation in the city centre. The operation was part of Op Selamat 25, aimed at ensuring road safety during the festive season.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the operation began at 10pm. It led to the arrest of seven individuals aged between 18 and 41 for various criminal and drug-related offences.

Four were arrested under the Drug Dependants Act after urine tests showed cannabis and methamphetamine use. Police also seized 83 vehicles, including 73 motorcycles and 10 cars, for extreme modifications.

“We also seized 83 vehicles, including 73 motorcycles and 10 cars, under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for extreme modifications such as noisy exhausts,” Mohd Zamzuri said during the operation on Jalan Raja Laut.

He said exhaust modifications were a key focus as the noise disrupts public peace. This is especially true in the city centre, which is surrounded by high-rise buildings.

The youngest person checked during the operation was just 16 years old. The operation involved 100 officers from various agencies.

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 640 offence notices. The Department of Environment handed out 12 noise pollution compounds.

A motorcyclist tried to flee during the operation, hitting a police vehicle. Police managed to seize the bike and are now tracking the owner.
