The Raja Muda of Selangor declines interest in leading FAM, reaffirming his sole focus on developing Selangor football and its grassroots
THE Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Shah, has firmly stated he is not interested in the vacant presidency of the Football Association of Malaysia.
Speaking after launching a book on Selangor football history, His Highness emphasised his commitment remains solely with the Selangor Football Association.
“Oh no, I am not interested. My interest is with FAS, and there is much we want to achieve at this time,” he stated.
He pledged support for any decisions that could elevate Malaysian football standards but reiterated his primary focus.
“I will support and give my best to do what I must to support Malaysian football. As I said, my focus is on FAS,” he added.
Earlier, Kelantan The Real Warriors CEO Datuk Mohd Irwan Rizal had named three royalty members as top candidates for the FAM role.
The list included the Sultan of Pahang, the Regent of Johor, and Tengku Amir Shah himself.
Irwan noted these figures possess a unique aura and influence both domestically and globally.
Tengku Amir said Selangor is implementing a comprehensive restructuring to empower the organisation and grassroots development.
As Chairman of Selangor FC, he stated the move aims to ensure a holistic and effective state football system.
He added that every decision is made for football’s advancement, not external interests.
“I believe that football today is not just about what happens on the pitch,” he said.
He explained it is about building a solid institution that shapes the community and strengthens fan bonds.
A professional approach will continue to be prioritised in management to fulfil this vision, he noted.
Tengku Amir Shah also stressed football must be managed in a modern, sustainable, and competitive manner.
This approach must not neglect tradition and identity, he added.
Regarding the launched book ‘Gemilang: Sejarah Perjalanan Bolasepak Selangor’, he announced it will be sold for RM200.
All proceeds will be fully channelled into a welfare fund for Selangor’s veteran players.
The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Shah, graced the book launch event with his presence.
