Ketereh MP may face action after attending Reset event with Hamzah as Bersatu central leadership weighs next step
PETALING JAYA: Bersatu’s Ketereh MP Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor (pic) could face disciplinary action after attending the Reset gathering last Saturday with recently sacked party deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
Kelantan Bersatu chairman Datuk Kamarudin Md Nor said the party’s secretary-general had issued a clear directive barring any elected representative from attending or participating in programmes organised by individuals who have faced disciplinary action, according to the New Straits Times.
“For this offence, any disciplinary action against a member or elected representative falls under the jurisdiction of the central leadership.
“Any decision will be made at the central level, and Datuk Khlir has taken the risk himself. I cannot predict what the central leadership will do after the directive was clearly defied.
“Datuk Khlir is on everyone’s radar — not just at the state level but also at the central leadership level. He should be prepared for possible action,” he added.
Earlier, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali had warned that it is an offence for members to collaborate with individuals or parties acting against the party constitution or to issue statements that could tarnish the party’s reputation.
The party’s internal crisis escalated following the expulsion of 17 leaders, including Hamzah.
Khlir had previously confirmed that he was among those who signed a statutory declaration urging Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to step down.
He was one of 19 MPs — including both current Bersatu members and those whose membership had been revoked — who attended the Direction and Political Reset Briefing with Hamzah last Saturday. Also present was Tanah Merah MP Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz, who remains a Bersatu MP.
Kamarudin also said there was no immediate need to meet Khlir to seek an explanation.
“I don’t think there is any need to meet him because it has already happened. If it had not taken place, there would be something to discuss. But since it has happened, there is little more we can say.
“So far, the central leadership of Bersatu has not contacted him to obtain further information,” he added.
Kamarudin emphasised that Kelantan Bersatu takes a more democratic approach in handling internal issues compared with some other states.
“We involve all division leaders and discuss the best way to resolve any issues that arise. In some other states, only the chief speaks, but there may be members who disagree,” he said.
