Tasek Gelugor MP abandons challenge to party expulsion, criticizes leadership double standards
PETALING JAYA: Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan has opted to drop his challenge against his dismissal from Bersatu.
Through a social media announcement on Facebook, Wan Saiful revealed he had formally notified the party’s disciplinary board about his decision via correspondence.
He highlighted that the initial charges brought against him included allegations of advocating for Perikatan Nasional to form an executive committee and later a presidential council.
The dismissed MP pointed out what he termed as inconsistency, noting that party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had championed comparable proposals.
“This demonstrates the double standards exhibited by Muhyiddin and those who blindly support him,” Wan Saiful stated.
In his communication to the disciplinary board, Wan Saiful expressed concerns about the party’s trajectory, claiming Muhyiddin had become susceptible to influence from individuals such as secretary-general Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
“This situation has caused Bersatu to abandon its focus on serving the people,” he added.
Wan Saiful’s membership was terminated by Bersatu last October following findings of constitutional and conduct violations.
Earlier this month on February 3, he submitted his appeal arguments to the party’s appeals board.
The disciplinary panel’s decision to remove Wan Saiful and several other divisional leaders stemmed from accusations linking them to an alleged campaign involving statutory declarations designed to remove Muhyiddin from leadership, as well as their purported involvement in disruptions at a recent party function.
Circulating messages on WhatsApp suggested Wan Saiful had coordinated efforts to gather statutory declarations supporting then-deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as a replacement for the top position.
During his address at the party’s annual general assembly, Muhyiddin referenced an attempt to collect signatures for his removal, which triggered significant unrest at the gathering.
Hamzah Zainudin was subsequently expelled from the party on February 13.
