MetMalaysia forecasts fair CNY mornings nationwide, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms in several states
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians celebrating Chinese New Year this year can expect generally fair morning weather but should prepare for afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said this pattern will be particularly pronounced on the first day of the celebration.
On day one of CNY, fair weather is expected on most of Peninsular Malaysia’s west coast in the morning.
Johor is forecast to experience scattered morning thunderstorms, with patchy rain also expected in parts of Sabah and Sarawak.
Widespread afternoon thunderstorms are predicted for the central and southern peninsula regions.
These areas include Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Perak, Pahang, and Johor.
Other states can expect isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon on the first day.
Isolated thunderstorms are expected to continue in most states across the country into the night.
On the second day of CNY, most of the country is expected to have clear morning weather.
The exceptions are isolated morning thunderstorms in Pahang, Johor, and parts of Sabah and Sarawak.
Johor is again forecast to see widespread thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Most other states in the peninsula, along with Sabah and Sarawak, can expect isolated afternoon storms.
The weather is expected to clear up in many areas during the night of the second day.
Only isolated thunderstorms are predicted for Penang, Perak, Pahang, Johor, and parts of Sabah and Sarawak then.
MetMalaysia urged the public to stay updated on the latest weather alerts.
The department advised people to plan their travels and outdoor activities accordingly during the festive period.
