Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim calls for unity, urging Malaysians to reject prejudice and use dialogue to maintain harmony in his Chinese New Year message.
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Malaysians to reject prejudice and choose dialogue to preserve national harmony.
In his Chinese New Year message, Anwar urged the people not to let emotions or differences fracture relationships within the nation’s plural society.
He said such differences should instead become opportunities to strengthen goodwill and the spirit of unity.
“Chinese New Year always reminds us of prosperity, hope and the strength to move forward with confidence,” Anwar said in a Facebook post.
He noted that the Year of the Horse celebrates diligence, courage and fighting spirit alongside wisdom and moderation.
Anwar cited Confucius, stating that harmony arises when people respect and understand one another.
“This is the foundation that enables a multiracial society to live together peacefully despite differences in cultural background and beliefs,” he said.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that Malaysia will continue to progress strongly.
He said this future depends on harmony, mutual respect and compassion remaining shared national values.
Anwar concluded his message by praying for the well-being and prosperity of all Malaysians.
“Gong Xi Fa Cai! Xin Nian Kuai Le! Ma Nian Xin Da Yun!,” said the Prime Minister.
