Road Transport Department’s special CNY operation sees 7,414 notices issued to motorcyclists and 103 bikes seized nationwide for various traffic offences.

KOTA BHARU: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 7,414 notices to motorcyclists during its special Chinese New Year operation. The nationwide enforcement drive, which began on February 9, involved the inspection of 41,332 motorcycles.

A total of 103 motorcycles were seized for various offences during the operation. JPJ Deputy Director-General (Management and Operations) Datuk Jazmanie Shafawi provided the figures after overseeing the operation here.

He added that 4,242 buses were inspected at depots and terminals across the country. From this total, 779 inspection slips were issued for various infringements.

Two buses were also seized for failing to meet established safety and legal standards. The department conducted undercover operations with officers posing as passengers to monitor compliance.

“A total of 381 bus drivers underwent urine screening tests throughout the operation, with three testing positive for drugs,” said Jazmanie. Further action has been taken against the drivers who tested positive.

For goods vehicles, 106 enforcement actions were recorded nationwide. Negeri Sembilan recorded the highest number of cases with 35, followed by Selangor (16), Penang (15), Perak (12), and Terengganu (9).
