
President Trump labels Cuba a ‘failed nation’ and calls for a bilateral deal, while dismissing the need for regime change.
ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE: President Donald Trump on Monday called Cuba a “failed nation” and urged Havana to make a deal with the United States.
He dismissed the idea of mounting an operation to oust the Cuban government.
“Cuba is right now, a failed nation,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.
When asked if the US would seek to remove Cuba’s leaders, as it did in Venezuela, he said it would not be necessary.
“I don’t think that will be necessary,” Trump stated.
The comments come as Cuba faces severe fuel shortages and widespread blackouts.
Trump has intensified the long-standing US embargo and pressured other nations to halt oil shipments to the island.
He acknowledged the resulting crisis poses a significant humanitarian threat.
“It’s a humanitarian threat,” Trump admitted of the fuel shortages.
