US Vice President JD Vance says there is no conflict with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is seen as a potential 2028 presidential contender.
WASHINGTON: US Vice President JD Vance has dismissed media speculation of a rivalry with Secretary of State Marco Rubio over a future White House bid.
“I think it’s so interesting the media wants to create this conflict where there just isn’t any conflict,” Vance said in a Fox News interview.
Though the 2028 election is years away, potential candidates are already the subject of intense speculation.
President Donald Trump, when asked about both men, said he did not have to worry about a successor.
“I’ve got three years to go,” Trump said. “They’re both fantastic.”
Vance downplayed any future presidential ambitions, focusing on his current role.
“I asked the American people to give me this job that I have right now,” he stated.
“Why don’t I do as good of a job as I can in this job? We’ll worry about the next job sometime in the future.”
Rubio himself has previously expressed support for Vance should he run.
In a December interview, Rubio told Vanity Fair that if Vance runs for president, “he’s going to be our nominee, and I’ll be one of the first people to support him.”
Both men are slated to take on additional high-profile duties later this year.
According to reports, Rubio and Vance will help fill in for White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt during her maternity leave.
This will place the two senior Trump administration figures directly in the media spotlight.
Political observers are expected to closely compare their performances, despite their claims of ignoring the speculation.
