The body of a Myanmar student was recovered after he was swept away by strong currents while swimming at Batu Buruk Beach in Kuala Terengganu.

KUALA TERENGGANU: The body of an 18-year-old Myanmar student who drowned while swimming at Batu Buruk Beach last week was recovered early this morning.

Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the victim, Sithu Moe Lwin, was found at 2.30 am by a search and rescue team.

The victim was discovered washed ashore about 350 metres from where he went missing by personnel patrolling the beach on all-terrain vehicles.

Following identification, the body was taken to the Forensic Unit of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for further action.

The Business Foundations student from INTI International University College in Nilai had travelled to Terengganu for a holiday with three university friends.

The group, comprising a Kenyan, a Filipino and a local, visited the beach for a swim before the victim was swept away by strong currents at about 10.35 am last Monday.
