Indonesian domestic helper in Johor gets RM1,000 red packet from employer during CNY celebrations

PETALING JAYA: A Johor-based employer has drawn widespread praise online after giving his Indonesian domestic helper a generous RM1,000 red packet during Chinese New Year celebrations.

The heartwarming moment was captured in a video uploaded to the TikTok account of Ah New Fishery Sdn Bhd, a fresh and frozen fish business operating in Johor.

In the video, the domestic helper first receives a red packet from an elderly woman, believed to be the employer’s mother. She then receives additional red packets from her employer, who asks her to choose from three envelopes.

The first envelope she picked contained RM1, followed by RM10, and then another RM1. Just when it seemed the exchange was over, the employer pulled out one more red packet from his pocket — this one containing 20 pieces of RM50 notes, totalling RM1,000.

The domestic helper responded with heartfelt well-wishes for her employer, saying: “May you have abundant blessings, success in your business, and long life with good health.”

The video has garnered positive responses from netizens who commended both the employer’s generosity and the respectful relationship between them.

One commenter, Elin shoppingg, noted: “Extraordinary kindness from this family. They all address their helper as ‘kakak’ (older sister), which I find very respectful. Gong Xi Fa Cai to uncle and family.”

Another user, Intan, wrote: “Good employer… the helper is fortunate to have a boss like this… friendly with workers.”
