Police launch manhunt after multiple ATMs in Jinjang were vandalised, causing RM64,000 in losses. Suspect remains at large.

PETALING JAYA: The Sentul district police headquarters has launched a special operation to track down and apprehend a suspect following a series of ATM vandalism incidents in Jinjang, which have resulted in an estimated total loss of RM64,000.

In a statement, today, Sentul district police chief ACP Basri Sagoni said the suspect’s modus operandi involved entering the premises, smashing the ATM screens with an object believed to be a stone, and fleeing the scene.

“No other criminal activity has been identified so far. All cases are being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing damage to property.”

The suspect is described as a fair-skinned male of undetermined ethnicity, about 165cm tall with a medium build. He was wearing a short-sleeved grey shirt, long pants, black slippers and a blue helmet, and was riding a blue Honda Wave motorcycle with an unknown registration number.

Basri said the first report was lodged on Feb 16 at 8.40am by a 38-year-old ATM technician at Jinjang Selatan Maybank, who discovered four ATM screens cracked, believed to have been vandalised, resulting in an estimated loss of RM4,000.

The following day, Feb 17, between 12.24pm and 10.16pm, police received four more reports of similar incidents: two at Jinjang Selatan Maybank, one at Jinjang Utara RHB and one at Jinjang Utara Public Bank. The total estimated loss from these cases was approximately RM64,000.

“We urge the public to provide any information related to the incidents.

“Any information concerning criminal activity can be reported to the Sentul District Police Operations Room at 03-40482222 or to any nearby police station to help prevent such crimes from spreading,” Basri added.
