Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim urges Muslims to seek the profound wisdom of Ramadan, moving beyond ritual to embrace its transformative spirit.
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the Muslim community to embrace the holy month of Ramadan by seeking its deeper spiritual meaning.
In a Facebook post, he urged moving beyond merely fulfilling the obligatory conditions of fasting to understanding the profound wisdom and objectives of the Sharia.
He stated that acts of worship should be driven by the spirit of *mujahadah*, or the inner struggle against personal desires. This approach should not be solely for pursuit of otherworldly rewards.
Anwar noted that Ramadan serves to strengthen self-discipline and cultivate sincere dedication to daily duties. The ultimate reward of this practice is the attainment of piety.
“The ultimate reward of this practice is the attainment of piety, which must be nurtured through fasting as a process of character building,” he said.
This character building, he added, must be rooted in a conscious awareness of the heart and an inner vigilance shaped by fear of Allah SWT.
The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to once again welcome the much-anticipated month. Muslims nationwide will begin fasting tomorrow.
