Malaysia’s lawn bowls team won all four gold medals at the 7-Nation Invitational Championship, a key test ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games

MALAYSIA completed a stunning clean sweep to be crowned overall champions at the 2026 7-Nation Invitational Lawn Bowls Championship.

The national squad dominated all four events on the final day of competition at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara.

Using the official format for the upcoming Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Malaysia proved its supremacy in the men’s and women’s singles and pairs events.

The success began with the Malaysia C women’s pair of Nur Syafira Mohamad Rezuan and Nurul Balqis Anisha Bakar defeating Hong Kong’s Cheryl Chan and Helen Cheung 2-1.

Nor Farah Ain Abdullah of Malaysia B then clinched the women’s singles title with a 2-1 victory over India’s Nayanmoni Saikia.

The celebrations continued as the Malaysia B men’s pair of Muhammad Naufal Azmi and Fadley Jabal beat Northern Australia’s Alex Brennan and Trystan Smallacombe 2-1.

Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple of Malaysia A completed the perfect sweep by defeating New Zealand Silver’s Shannon Mcilroy 2-1 in the men’s singles final.

Based on points collected, Malaysia B were crowned overall team champions with 25 points.

Malaysia A finished second, sharing 24 points with third-placed New Zealand Silver.

National head coach Fairul Izwan Abd Muin said the tournament was a crucial starting point for Commonwealth Games preparations.

“Honestly, I am satisfied but Team A was initially targeted to be champions,” he told reporters.

He acknowledged that several aspects still needed refinement despite achieving the overall champion target.

Nor Farah Ain Abdullah said she adapted well to the tournament format, which included a timer system.

“I have played in this format before. For me, the timer and the 30-second duration are actually okay,” said the 25-year-old.

She added that the implementation made matches faster.

The championship featured teams from Malaysia, New Zealand, India, Hong Kong, Singapore and Northern Australia.

It served as an early preparation and selection platform for the national squad ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games beginning next July.

Lawn Bowls Malaysia Federation president Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz was present to award prizes to the winners.
