Penang Pakatan Harapan begins early election preparations, focusing on internal strengthening and defending state and federal governments
GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) machinery has been instructed to commence early preparations for the next general election.
Penang PH Leadership Council chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the coalition’s current focus is on internal strengthening, including restructuring party machinery and enhancing organisational strategies at all levels.
“Time will pass very quickly, so we need to start preparations for the upcoming election,” he said.
Chow, who is also Penang’s Chief Minister, stated the coalition has resolved to defend the government at both the state and federal levels.
He emphasised that this mission represents a heavy responsibility for all members.
The decision to begin early party machinery preparations was made during a meeting in early February.
Chow clarified that this move was not influenced by the current political factors of any other party.
He made these remarks during his speech at the Penang PKR Chinese New Year MADANI Open House at Wisma PKR in Bayan Baru.
Also present were PKR Wanita chief and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and State Leadership Council chairman Datuk Mohamad Abdul Hamid.
Mohamad Abdul Hamid also serves as the state’s Deputy Chief Minister I.
Chow added that 2026 is a crucial period to bolster the party’s strength and improve the government’s administrative performance.
“The remaining time is getting shorter, so we must start working now,” he said.
He explained that by the time the election arrives, the coalition must show an administrative track record that convinces the people.
Speaking at a press conference later, Chow addressed the possibility of simultaneous federal and state elections.
He said the decision rests with the central leadership, and Penang PH would abide by any decision made.
