Former England batsman Jonathan Trott expresses interest in coaching his home nation after concluding his tenure with Afghanistan at the T20 World Cup.
JONATHAN TROTT has expressed his desire to one day coach England, stating he would “jump at the chance” if the opportunity arose. The 44-year-old made the comments after his final match in charge of Afghanistan, which ended with an 82-run win over Canada at the Twenty20 World Cup.
Trott’s Afghanistan side managed only two wins and failed to advance from Group D. “I don’t know what the future holds,” Trott said regarding his next move after a tenure that began in July 2022.

The former England batsman, who played 127 matches for his country from 2009 to 2015, holds the national team dear. “I’d love to one day hopefully have the opportunity to coach a team that you hold so dear to your heart,” he added.
He acknowledged significant competition for any potential role with England. “There are a lot of people that I’m sure would love to do that job,” Trott said.
His initial 18-month contract with Afghanistan was extended through 2024 and 2025. Under his guidance, the team reached its first T20 World Cup semi-final this year and narrowly missed the semi-finals at the 50-overs World Cup in 2023.
