Malaysia’s Uber Cup campaign could be boosted by Goh Jin Wei’s inclusion, adding depth and experience to the women’s singles lineup.

PROFESSIONAL shuttler Goh Jin Wei is being considered for Malaysia’s Uber Cup squad to strengthen the team’s depth and competitiveness.

National singles coaching director Kenneth Jonassen said her recent performance, particularly a strong runner-up finish at the Thailand Masters, shows she has returned to a high level.

Her inclusion is also based on experience from previous team competitions like last year’s Sudirman Cup.

Jonassen said he wants a balanced team with three women’s singles players at a similar competitive level.

“This makes it a very competitive side, maybe not against the very top team, but against everybody else,” he said.

He noted Jin Wei, currently Malaysia’s third-ranked women’s singles player, could play an important role.

“As a third singles player, she can play an interesting role and give more depth to the team,” Jonassen added.

He said she is an experienced player who has competed in several team events before.

However, the final decision on her participation rests with the player herself.

Jin Wei met with Badminton Association of Malaysia president Tan Sri Chong Wei yesterday regarding participation in the Uber Cup Finals from April 24 to May 3.
