US actor Eric Dane shares heartfelt last words to his daughters in a Netflix documentary, recorded before his death from ALS at 53.
BERKELEY: US actor Eric Dane addressed his two daughters with touching words in an interview for a Netflix documentary series, recorded months before his death.
The streaming service released the episode featuring Dane’s famous last words on Friday, one day after the Grey’s Anatomy star died.
In April 2025, Dane announced he had been diagnosed with the incurable neurological disease ALS. He was 53 years old.
His conversation was recorded in November for the Netflix series, which features interviews released only posthumously.
The actor sat in a wheelchair and talked about his life in a hoarse voice during the recording. He addressed moving words to his daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14, from his marriage to actress Rebecca Gayheart.
Dane reminisced about holidays and shared life lessons he learnt through his illness. He advised his teenage daughters to “live now. Right now. In the present,” and enjoy every moment.
They should discover their love for something that awakens their passion and brings them joy, he said. For him, that was acting.
His final piece of advice was to “fight with every ounce of your being, and with dignity. When you face challenges, health or otherwise, fight. Never give up. Fight until your last breath.”
ALS may have slowly destroyed his body, but it never destroyed his spirit, he added. “Billie and Georgia, you are my heart. You are my everything. Good night. I love you. Those are my last words.”
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a disease affecting the central and peripheral nervous system. It destroys nerves, resulting in swallowing, breathing and speech disorders, muscle atrophy, and paralysis, which ultimately lead to death.
