IPOH: The Kepayang State Assembly Service Centre has distributed RM23,000 in immediate aid to 17 families affected by a severe thunderstorm.
The storm struck Taman Star and Kampung Kepayang last week, causing significant damage to residences just before the Chinese New Year holiday.
Wong Kar Keat, political secretary to Kepayang assemblyman Nga Kor Ming, handed over the assistance to the victims today.
He explained that the incident occurred during a long holiday weekend, which complicated repair efforts and disrupted daily life.
“After the incident, the Kepayang Assemblyman’s Service Centre immediately contacted the Village Development and Security Committee to gather and verify victim information,” Wong said in a statement.
His team is also arranging free temporary hotel accommodation for families whose homes are currently unsafe.
The amount of aid for each family was determined by the level of damage, ranging from RM1,000 to RM3,000.
“Although the amount is limited and cannot fully cover the losses, it can immediately help alleviate the burden during this critical time,” Wong added.
He stated that this effort demonstrates how service centres, the private sector, and related agencies are providing crucial support to those facing difficulties.
