KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 — Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has been named the new chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Berita Harian reported that Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau announced the appointment after the coalition’s extraordinary supreme council meeting today, describing it as consistent with PN’s emphasis on inclusivity. 

“We congratulate him,” he said, adding that the coalition expected Samsuri to “carry out all necessary work, especially towards achieving victory in the 16th general election.”

Samsuri, a PAS vice-president, takes over a post left vacant since Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin stepped down on January 1, following a proposal by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
