Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim launches the Rakan Masjid X Rakan Muda Ramadan programme to connect youth with mosques through a fresh, inclusive approach.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today launched the Rakan Masjid X Rakan Muda Ramadan initiative to connect mosque institutions with youth through a fresher and more inclusive approach.

He said the initiative aligns with the Malaysia MADANI aspirations that emphasise holistic human development.

Anwar stated that mosques must not be seen merely as places of worship but as centres for community unity and character development.

“Youth must be given the space and trust to lead activities that benefit society,” he said.

The Prime Minister expressed his happiness at having young figures who use Ramadan positively to elevate humanity and faith rather than focusing on divisive issues.

He made these remarks at a breaking of fast ceremony which also served as the launch event for the new initiative.

Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hassan, Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari and Deputy Minister Marhamah Rosli.

Anwar wants mosque institutions strengthened as centres for ummah development and platforms to instil values of compassion and unity, especially among the younger generation.

The Rakan Muda Ramadan programme will be implemented in every state and across 113 districts nationwide.

Every state is targeted to have 400 participants, except Perlis and Labuan which will have 300 participants each, bringing the total state-level participation to 5,800 people.

A total of 130 people are expected to join at the district level, bringing the overall number of participants nationwide to 14,690.
