KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) recorded 9.4 million passenger movements across its domestic network in January 2026.
This marked the opening month of the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY 2026) campaign.
Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) led the network with 5.9 million passengers, an 8.2% year-on-year increase.
Penang International Airport followed with 741,183 passengers, representing a 3.8% rise.
MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said the growth reflects strong travel demand and Malaysia’s expanding regional connectivity.
“As traffic grows, we remain focused on upgrading infrastructure, strengthening network connectivity, and delivering consistent service standards across all our airports,” he said.
He added that these enhancements are part of a proactive approach to ensure capacity and service quality keep pace with growth.
The group also launched several service enhancements in January, including the new RIMBA @ KLIA nature-inspired rest area.
Its vehicle access management systems achieved a 99% compliance rate, improving traffic flow at key points.
Network connectivity expanded with at least six new routes introduced in January.
These services link Malaysia directly with Shanghai, Jinan, Hong Kong, Hefei, Guangzhou and Harbin.
The new routes connect to Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau and Penang, supporting tourism and regional economic growth.
