Iran vows to respond ferociously to any US military action, branding even limited strikes as an act of aggression following President Trump’s recent comments.
TEHRAN: Iran declared on Monday that any US attack, including limited strikes, would constitute an “act of aggression” and precipitate a fierce response.
Foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei stated there is no such thing as a limited strike, asserting that any act of aggression would be met with a ferocious reaction as part of Iran’s inherent right to self-defence.
The warning follows President Donald Trump’s comments on Friday that he was considering a limited strike if Tehran did not reach a deal with the United States.
The two countries recently concluded a second round of indirect talks in Switzerland under Omani mediation, set against a backdrop of major US military build-up in the region.
Further talks, confirmed by Iran and Oman but not by the United States, are scheduled for Thursday.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is leading the negotiations for Iran, while the United States is represented by envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Witkoff said in a Sunday interview that Trump is wondering why Iran has not “capitulated” in the face of Washington’s military deployment.
Baqaei responded by saying that Iranians had never capitulated at any point in their history.
