SIBU: One man was killed and two others were injured in a collision between a lorry and a tanker early this morning.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 12.04 am regarding the crash at KM19 of Jalan KJD.
The fertiliser-laden lorry had crashed into the rear of the tanker lorry.
Operations commander Bakar Ujang reported that upon arrival, two male attendants were found trapped in the lorry cabin.
The driver had managed to exit the vehicle on his own.
Rescue operations were hampered by the narrow and confined working space at the scene.
The team required assistance from another lorry to reposition the vehicle and create room to work.
The first victim, 22-year-old Maxwell Bernard Empam, was extricated conscious and handed to Health Ministry personnel.
The second victim, 30-year-old Stanley Ali, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The lorry driver, 30-year-old Samuel Numpang, also sustained injuries in the incident.
The crash site was approximately 32 kilometres from the Bintangor Fire and Rescue Station.
