The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission found negligence in a Rela firearms training incident, recommending disciplinary action and a review of procedures.
PUTRAJAYA: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission has found negligence in a firearms training incident at a Rela centre last November.
Its investigation concluded that officers on duty as the Shooting Range Officer and Site Officer were negligent during the session.
The incident occurred during a Basic Induction Course for Rela officers on November 15, 2024.
It resulted in injuries to a trainee at the Northern Region People’s Volunteer Corps Training Centre.
The EAIC stated that the PLRWU management failed to lodge a police report or submit an official report to Rela headquarters.
It also found non-compliance with the conditions of a Temporary Firearms Licence approval issued by Kedah police.
The permit stipulated that each shooter must be assisted by a Royal Malaysia Police officer during training.
The investigation was conducted under the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission Act 2009.
Consequently, the EAIC is referring its findings to Rela’s Disciplinary Authority.
It recommends action against the officers for negligence under the Public Officers Regulations.
The commission also advised Rela to carry out improvements and a comprehensive procedural review.
This review should cover all standard operating procedures for handling and training with firearms.
The aim is to ensure full compliance with existing legal provisions.
