Khairul Aming jokes about fans quitting his Ramadan recipes in a mock press conference on Threads

RAMADAN and Khairul Aming’s 30-day recipe series have become inseparable, with the content creator dishing out three recipes a day for his followers.

But while many netizens have successfully recreated his dishes, others have seen their kitchen attempts end not deliciously, but disastrously.

The playful chaos began when a fan uploaded a humorous clip styled as a “press statement”, announcing she was giving up on his recipes and “ending” their culinary relationship because she could no longer execute them successfully.

Responding in equally tongue-in-cheek fashion, Khairul posted a mock press conference video on Threads, with flashing “media” lights and microphone graphics held up by imaginary reporters.

The entrepreneur behind viral eatery Rembayung said he filmed the clip during sahur (pre-dawn meal) to “clarify” matters from his side.

Delivering his lines in a serious tone against calming piano music for added drama, he quipped, “(Fans) say they are giving up because they are unwell or tired. If you ask me, it is a commitment issue. I upload three videos a day. Sometimes I cannot sleep at night because I am still editing. What do I get in return? Nothing.”

He stressed that he was not complaining, but merely seeking “justice” from netizens.

“I don’t know how people get stressed when I only ask you to try three recipes a day. It’s about responsibility. I don’t understand how you can ‘end’ this relationship and leave me alone with my duties, which are already challenging,” he mock-confronted viewers.

The video also featured snippets of fans’ attempts at his recipes, including burnt stoves, blackened caramel puddings, oven mishaps while making marshmallows and even a mysterious case of a missing pudding.

“People are going mad, having meltdowns, totally out of control and some are even uncontrollable. And that’s not even counting those who burn their stoves, cook until the caramel pudding turns black, blow up their ovens, or cook and then don’t know where the pudding has gone,” he said, proving he keeps up with fans’ kitchen adventures.

He urged followers not to “give up on their responsibility” and point the finger at him later.

Since the reel was styled as a press conference, he jokingly added that he did not want the media asking him questions, as he might say one thing and they could write something else.

He ended by asking netizens to hear both sides of the story and give him a fair opinion.

The comments section was equally entertaining.

User @ocean_7seas, a Malaysian living overseas, declared she was not “recipe divorcing” him like some locals, joking that those abroad were instead committing “international crimes” for the relationship.

“Just a few days ago, I literally drove across the border to Germany to smuggle plum sauce back to Denmark because we don’t have it here. That’s not a break-up — that’s a visa run for flavour.

“So while some are quitting, we’re still here, still hungry, still committed. KA, you keep grinding three recipes a day. We’ll keep crossing borders,” she wrote.

Another follower, Akmaliyana, said “Cikgu KA” had raised the bar this year, with the Ramadan “syllabus” becoming increasingly challenging.

Mocking the press meet stunt, Watiey Soong quipped, “That’s cute. A good start to the morning. Salute to the reporters for holding the mic without moving.”

Budin Karimin said this year’s Ramadan would be remembered for the influencer’s hilarious press conference skit, while another user remarked that the light-hearted drama would be missed once the holy month ends.
