Football Association of Malaysia cancels three futsal and beach football tournaments, citing a strategic review to streamline the competition calendar and align with long-term development goals.

THE Football Association of Malaysia has confirmed the cancellation of three national-level futsal and beach football tournaments this season.

The decision was made after considering various factors, including the need to streamline the competition calendar.

Other factors include the national team’s commitments, logistics and infrastructure availability.

FAM emphasised that the decision is not a step backwards for the sports’ development.

“It is a strategic approach to ensure a more organised, sustainable and high-impact planning for the future,” FAM said in a statement.

The association is reviewing the competition structure for futsal and beach football to align them with long-term development direction.

This review aims to meet higher competition standards in the future.

FAM will study detailed restructuring plans for the tournaments once discussions with stakeholders are finalised.

The cancelled tournaments are the Malaysia Futsal Cup, the National Under-19 Men’s Futsal Championship and the National Beach Football Championship.

Media reports had earlier indicated the three events for this season had been called off.
