Commuters face evening rush hour congestion after a second technical fault on the LRT Kelana Jaya line, following a major morning disruption

PETALING JAYA: Commuters on the LRT Kelana Jaya Line faced a second major disruption on Tuesday, compounding a day of transit woes.

The latest fault occurred at 3pm due to a malfunction with train and platform screen doors at KLCC station.

Rapid KL technicians resolved the issue by 3.15pm, restoring normal train operations swiftly.

However, the brief halt caused cascading delays across the network ahead of the evening rush hour.

By 4.15pm, Rapid KL warned of severe congestion expected at major interchange and connecting stations.

This afternoon’s glitch followed a separate 90-minute bottleneck earlier in the morning.

That disruption, caused by a manually operated train between Asia Jaya and Taman Bahagia stations, began at 8am.

It forced the activation of alternative shuttle services for thousands of affected commuters.

To manage the ongoing crowd build-up, Rapid KL urged passengers to plan journeys and use alternative routes.

Passengers heading to KLCC via the MRT Kajang Line should avoid the LRT interchange.

They are advised to transit at Tun Razak Exchange station and switch to the MRT Putrajaya Line.

Commuters can then disembark at Persiaran KLCC station, within walking distance of the Petronas Twin Towers.

Real-time updates are available via the PULSE app or Rapid KL’s official social media channels.

Rail frequencies were adjusted across the network to help clear passenger backlogs.

The LRT Kelana Jaya and MRT Kajang lines were operating at 4 to 5-minute intervals.

The MRT Putrajaya Line ran every 4 minutes, while the LRT Ampang/Sri Petaling Line operated every 3 minutes in the CBD.

Outside the central business district, the LRT Ampang/Sri Petaling Line ran every 6 minutes.

The KL Monorail service was operating on a 7-minute frequency.

Rapid KL apologised for the repeated inconveniences caused throughout the day.

The operator thanked passengers for their continued patience and cooperation.

Earlier this morning, commuters on the Kelana Jaya Line faced another round of peak-hour disruptions, following yesterday’s delays between Asia Jaya and Taman Bahagia stations after a train was operated manually.
