Transport Minister demands explanation, recovery plan from Prasarana after repeated LRT disruptions.
PETALING JAYA: A third peak-hour disruption hitting the Kelana Jaya LRT line sees Transport Minister Anthony Loke ordering an immediate explanation and recovery plan from Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, warning that action could follow if operational weaknesses are uncovered.
In a Facebook statement, Loke said he viewed the recent incidents seriously, stressing that commuters have the right to demand a more efficient and reliable level of service.
“I have instructed the CEO of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad to provide an explanation at the post-Cabinet meeting, together with an immediate recovery action plan,” he said.
He added that the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) would be directed to investigate the incidents and take action against Prasarana if it is found that there were unreasonable operational weaknesses.
The minister’s response comes amid mounting commuter frustration over peak-hour delays and overcrowding along the line, including slower train movements due to manual operations and repeated technical issues in recent days.
Earlier today, theSun reported on mounting commuter frustration, with many describing the disruptions as an increasingly frequent occurrence.
Rapid KL apologised for delays between Asia Jaya and Taman Bahagia stations, saying trains were moving slower than usual and stopping longer at platforms because one train was being operated manually.
Checks show that this was the third morning peak-hour malfunction involving the Kelana Jaya LRT line in recent days.
Just hours later — shortly before the evening rush — Rapid KL issued another update stating that services were delayed due to a disruption involving the train door system and platform screen doors at KLCC station.
Commuters have since taken to social media to criticise what they described as recurring peak-hour disruptions, with some questioning maintenance practices and calling for greater accountability from Prasarana.
