JOHOR BAHRU: The Region Two Marine Police Force seized crude palm oil (CPO) and illegal fireworks worth a total of RM627,400 in three separate operations.
The raids were conducted under Op Taring Landai between yesterday and today.
Region Two Marine Police Commander ACP Noor Azman Jamal said the first raid was in Pasir Gudang following intelligence on CPO misappropriation.
A 37-year-old local man was detained while transferring CPO from one lorry to another without valid documents.
“Inspection revealed 24 drums filled with crude palm oil and 23 empty drums, totaling an estimated 4.8 tonnes of CPO,” he said in a statement.
He added the suspect failed to produce valid documentation from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).
The seizure value for this case is estimated at RM185,100.
The case is being investigated under Regulation 5 of the Malaysian Palm Oil (Licensing) Regulations 2005.
Two additional raids targeted the storage and sale of fireworks and firecrackers without permits.
A 32-year-old man was arrested in Skudai with 86 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers valued at RM211,000.
A third raid at a residential premise in Danga Bay led to the detention of a 39-year-old man.
Police seized 77 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers valued at RM231,300 from that location.
The total value of the fireworks and firecrackers seized in both cases is estimated at RM442,300.
Investigations for these cases are being conducted under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.
Noor Azman emphasised that the marine police will continue to intensify efforts to combat CPO misappropriation and the illegal sale of explosives.
He also urged the public to continue providing information to the police regarding any illegal activities.
