Malaysia plans to propose over 10 e-sports titles for the 2027 SEA Games, aiming for the largest programme ever and targeting multiple gold medals.
KUALA LUMPUR: The 2027 SEA Games in Malaysia could feature a historic e-sports programme. The Malaysia Electronic Sports Federation plans to propose more than 10 game titles for competition.
MESF President Muhammad Naim Al Amin Saharudin said the list includes games never contested before, specifically racing simulators. He hinted that more than half of the titles are gold medal targets for the national squad.
The selection was made through discussions with game publishers. It also considered the potential for gold medal contributions to the country.
He noted that the competition venue in Sarawak has been identified. Site visits confirmed existing facilities are in good condition and capable of meeting hosting requirements.
The 2021 SEA Games in Hanoi currently holds the record with eight e-sports titles offering 10 gold medals. In the previous edition in Thailand, only four titles across six events were contested.
The national squad won one gold in Women’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and a silver in the Men’s event there.
In a separate development, Muhammad Naim confirmed Malaysia has secured spots in the MLBB and Honor of Kings events for the 2026 Asian Games. Qualifying rounds for other titles will run from April to July.
The selection process for national players is currently underway.
