Kedah police chief will hold a press conference to provide full details on the shooting of a border agency commander, with suspects already remanded.

KLANG: The Kedah police chief will brief the media tomorrow on the latest developments in the shooting involving a Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) commander in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said today.

He said police have already taken preliminary action, but full details of the case would be announced by the state police leadership.

“I have spoken with the Kedah police chief. He will hold a special press conference on this matter.

“Earlier, the suspects were brought to court for remand, but the full details will be provided tomorrow,” he told reporters during the Ops Pagar Laut inspection aboard KM Tun Fatimah here today.

Saifuddin added that any move to strengthen protective measures for AKPS personnel, including the possible use of firearms, would be determined by the agency’s leadership based on operational requirements.

“To enhance the safety of AKPS personnel, if there is a need, for example, to utilise firearms or other measures, I leave it entirely to the MCBA leadership to determine the appropriate arrangements,” he said.

The Bukit Kayu Hitam MCBA commander escaped unharmed on Feb 25 after gunmen on a motorcycle fired two shots at his vehicle at about 5.40am near the Malaysia-Thailand border.

Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah previously said two men dressed in black and wearing full-face helmets approached on a motorcycle, with one suspect firing two shots that struck the rear right door and front passenger door.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.
