Malaysian taxpayers can file returns for 2025 from March 1 via MyTax portal, with LHDN warning of penalties for late submissions and new ID requirements.
PUTRAJAYA: Individual and non-individual taxpayers can begin submitting their Income Tax Return Forms for the 2025 Year of Assessment from tomorrow.
The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) stated that submission must be done mandatorily through the e-Filing service on the MyTax portal.
This involves Forms E, BE, B, M, BT, MT, P, TF, TJ and TP.
Taxpayers and employers can access the service directly through the MyTax portal or via the official LHDN website.
Tax agents are encouraged to use the dedicated Tax Agent e-filing System (TAeF) platform.
LHDN also announced a change in identification numbers for portal access starting March 1.
The Identity Card Number will now be designated as the identification number for MyKad, MyPR, and MyKAS holders.
Military or police personnel who previously used their service numbers must re-register their Individual Digital Certificate using their public IC number.
Taxpayers must ensure they have the relevant role in MyTax for a smooth submission process.
A filing guide is available in the BN Filing Programme for the Year 2026 on the LHDN portal.
Failure to submit the return form and report actual income on time can result in penalties.
Under the Income Tax Act 1967, penalties include a fine of RM200 to RM20,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both.
Late submissions will incur additional penalties based on the delay period.
These penalties can range from 15% to 45% of the tax owed.
LHDN urges all taxpayers to prepare early to avoid last-minute difficulties.
Taxpayers should ensure all tax-related records and documents are reviewed and completed before filing.
