Lebanese authorities report at least 31 dead and 149 wounded from Israeli strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs and southern regions, prompting an emergency cabinet meeting.
BEIRUT: Israeli airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs and regions of southern Lebanon killed at least 31 people and injured 149 others on Monday morning, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.
The ministry provided the figures based on an initial and non-final casualty count from the attacks.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam subsequently called for an emergency cabinet meeting to address the intense Israeli strikes targeting numerous areas, including the capital.
The cabinet was summoned to convene at the presidential palace at 8 am local time to review the overnight developments and discuss the government’s response measures.
The emergency session follows a significant escalation in tensions after rocket fire was launched from southern Lebanon toward northern Israel.
