Turkish President Erdogan holds urgent calls with US, Gulf, and EU leaders, warning of global security risks and advocating for dialogue after attacks.
ISTANBUL: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan conducted intensive diplomatic outreach following a series of military attacks involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
The Turkish Communications Directorate confirmed Erdogan held phone calls with leaders from the US, Gulf nations, and the European Union over the weekend.
He discussed the latest regional situation with US President Donald Trump in their conversation.
Erdogan extended condolences and well-wishes to the leaders of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait following attacks targeting their countries.
In his call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Erdogan warned the conflict could have serious regional and global security consequences without necessary intervention.
He stressed that Türkiye and Saudi Arabia have made serious efforts to resolve disputes through dialogue.
“Giving diplomacy a chance remains the most rational course,” Erdogan reiterated during the discussions.
The Turkish leader also spoke with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen about the attacks on Iran and the subsequent conflict.
He reiterated Ankara’s call for all parties to return to diplomacy and negotiations, stating Türkiye stands ready to support peace efforts.
Erdogan underlined the importance of close coordination between Türkiye and the EU during this process.
The diplomatic flurry follows a joint US-Israeli military campaign which killed several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Tehran retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Gulf countries, resulting in the deaths of three US service members and serious injuries to five others.
