The International Atomic Energy Agency reports normal radiation levels in countries bordering Iran, with no signs of damage to its nuclear facilities.

MOSCOW: International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi confirmed on Monday that no elevated radiation levels have been detected in countries neighbouring Iran.

Grossi made the statement in an introductory address to the IAEA Board of Governors, noting the agency’s Incident and Emergency Centre remains operational with a dedicated team assessing the situation.

“The regional safety monitoring network has been put on alert and is liaising with us continuously,” Grossi said in his statement.

He added that so far, no elevation of radiation levels above the usual background levels has been detected in countries bordering Iran.

The IAEA currently has no signs that any nuclear facilities in Iran, including the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, the Tehran Research Reactor or other nuclear fuel cycle facilities, were damaged.

Grossi expressed that the agency is following the military attacks in Iran and the Middle East with concern.

Efforts to contact Iranian nuclear regulatory authorities through the emergency centre continue but have so far received no response.

“We hope this indispensable channel of communication can be reestablished as soon as possible,” Grossi added.
