The National Anti-Drugs Agency vows full transparency with MACC over alleged bribery by staff at a Terengganu rehab centre to smuggle contraband to inmates.

KUALA TERENGGANU: The National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) has pledged full cooperation with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) regarding an alleged bribery case at a drug rehabilitation centre in Terengganu.

AADK director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh (pic) said the agency will provide all necessary information to ensure a transparent and comprehensive investigation.

“AADK stresses that it will never compromise or protect any personnel involved in any misconduct and violation of integrity cases that can affect the reputation of the agency and the civil service,” he said in a statement.

Ruslin confirmed the investigation process has been handed over to the MACC. He added that internal disciplinary action has also been initiated under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993, pending the official probe’s outcome.

The agency is also evaluating its standard operating procedures to close any gaps that could be exploited.

“AADK is determined to completely curb any form of misconduct and corruption among its workforce,” Ruslin stated.

He warned that the sternest actions, including dismissal, would be taken against any staff found guilty.

Earlier reports indicated a female civil servant at the centre was remanded for six days on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes totalling about RM6,000. The bribes were allegedly an inducement to smuggle contraband to inmates.

Sources said the woman, in her 30s, was detained with a male colleague after giving statements at the Terengganu MACC office. The male suspect, in his late 40s, was later released on MACC bail due to health reasons.

Initial investigations suggest both suspects acted independently between September 2024 and January 2025. They allegedly solicited money from inmates’ families.

Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid confirmed the arrests. The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

A thorough investigation is also underway to determine if other individuals were involved in the syndicate.
