Police reveal a suspect had been following the border agency commander for weeks, with detained individuals linked to smuggling and a known criminal gang.

SUNGAI PETANI: One of the suspects detained over the shooting of a Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency commander’s vehicle is believed to have been trailing the victim for a month.

Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said the local man allegedly followed SAC Mohd Nasaruddin M. Nasir to the mosque in the early morning before the February 25 incident.

The suspect was among three men, aged between 44 and 58, arrested around Bukit Kayu Hitam on February 28.

Adzli stated that the man is believed to have tailed the victim when he went to the mosque and his office in the early mornings over the past month.

He added that investigations are ongoing with positive developments and all information will be thoroughly scrutinised.

Out of the 10 suspects arrested since the day of the incident, one male has been released on police bail.

Investigations into the remaining nine suspects are continuing, with none having confessed to involvement in the shooting case so far.

However, most of the detained individuals admitted to involvement in aggressive, large-scale cross-border smuggling of items like rice, pig carcasses and diesel.

Adzli did not deny the involvement of some suspects with the criminal group known as Geng Pak Su.

He confirmed there is a connection but could not yet disclose the extent of their involvement in the shooting, stating further investigation is needed.

The media previously reported police had arrested 10 individuals to assist in the investigation into the shooting of Mohd Nasaruddin’s vehicle at 5.40 am on February 25.
