Sabah authorities confiscated over 550 tonnes of frozen meat, including expired chicken, in a major raid on a storage hub in Donggongon, detaining one suspect

DONGGONGON: More than 550 tonnes of frozen chicken and other meat products have been seized in a major integrated operation in Sabah.

The raid was conducted by the Sabah Region 4 Marine Police Force together with several other enforcement agencies at a premises in Kampung Nambazan.

Sabah Region 4 PPM commander ACP Ahmad Amri Abd Rahman said the operation was based on shared intelligence.

He said the premises was believed to be a storage hub for the products.

In a statement, Ahmad Amri said the Ministry of Health confirmed some of the confiscated meat had expired.

“The Department of Veterinary Services meanwhile confirmed that there were doubts about the documents submitted due to non-compliance with laws relating to food safety and veterinary regulations,” he said.

A local man present at the scene was detained to assist in the investigation.

The enforcement team also seized a cold storage facility during the operation.

This brought the total estimated value of the seizure to RM14,560,149.15.

The case is being investigated under the Food Act 1983.
