Two Kedah enforcement officers remanded for six days over alleged bribe solicitation linked to foreign worker permit approvals for a local company.

ALOR SETAR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Kedah has remanded two enforcement officers for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes totalling RM39,000.

The bribes were reportedly linked to securing approval for foreign worker permits for a company operating in the state.

The two male suspects, aged in their 30s and 50s, were arrested around midnight along with a third individual believed to be a middleman.

The middleman was later released on MACC bail.

“Preliminary investigations found that the two suspects allegedly conspired to commit the offence between January and February,” said MACC sources.

They are accused of soliciting bribes from the company’s agent through the middleman.

Investigations revealed the suspects allegedly received an initial payment of approximately RM4,000 via bank transfer.

The remaining RM35,000 of the solicited amount has not been obtained.

Kedah MACC director Datuk Nazli Rasyid Sulong confirmed the six-day remand order lasting until March 9.

The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.

Nazli added that comprehensive investigations will continue to determine if other individuals were involved.
